Administrator Swiss Army Knife

Written by Carl E. Reid on September 24, 2008

Although administrators may have an excellent server based SMTP spam filter in place, some email helpdesk requests may require some additional effort or research to resolve.  Wouldn’t it also be nice to receive advanced intelligence, before we have to address global email threats?  These threats, benign or real, may impact our company operations?

The Malware Commando toolbar is just what the doctor ordered.  This toolbar is provided free to email and network administrators as a global public community service. It has been developed by an administrator for administrators, as a tool to combat all the vicious things spammers, identity thieves and scammers do everyday to disrupt our personal and business lives.

Just like any war, administrators are generals that can plan winning strategic tactics based on the timely intelligence received. This toolbar provides tools, resources and information to allow us to work smarter, not harder in proactively protecting our email and network users.

It’s a central command center that acts like an electronic administrator utility belt.  With a very simple layout, it provides the following features:

  • A news ticker that include the latest articles published by the excellent writing team of “All Spammed Up” and “The Email Admin“.
  • Tools that include a phish registry and email icon generator you can share with your web development team.  The email icon generator improves on the article “Web Page Design is Email Administrators’ Business“, which describes using forms to replace email addresses.
  • Listings of internet threat “think tank” organizations, such as the “Coalition Against Unsolicited Email” (CAUSE) and the “United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team” (US-CERT).
  • Add Microsoft desktop applications to toolbar, including getting notifications from your personal email inbox.  This rounds out the toolbar as a complete administrator command center.
  • Get local weather alerts and implement a pop up blocker.

I have thoroughly tested this Malware Commando toolbar . It’s free, private and secure. It contains no spyware. It allows administrators to connect with other administrators, via a chatting button. It has a Google powered search bar to do quick research.

It is definitely worth sharing this toolbar with other administrators to exchange ideas and collaborate.  It also has a menu option to contribute new tools or resources so all administrators can continuously have the latest information available to keep their networks and email systems secure.
